![]() Although The Brain is proprietary in its storage structure, the individual folders can be drilled down into and searched (on Mac anyway) as well as exported to standalone folders, a plain text outline format, and, JSON. Folders are organized by topic and DevonThink gets used to organize and surface related, content, tagging and replicating content so that the same piece can live in multiple locations. But, I try to keep most information and analysis in separate folders as either plain text (w markdown these days) and or PDF files. The thing that makes The Brain really useful is the visual interface for cross linking, the ability to express what the link means, and the ability to include attachments. Rather, it acts as a workspace and that can later be returned to for reference if/when the issues comes up again. Especially since the data loss in 2009, The Brain for me was never treated as the be-all/end-all to collect and categorize information. Used The Brain primarily as a means to organize my own thought processes and analyze a specifically difficult issue. But, just barely heard of Zettlekasten in the last 6 months. It has 1,917 separate entries but due to a crash back in 2009 lost maybe 500-1500 entries. ![]()
